Known informally as Aelith, Queen Alix - wife of Baldwin V - was born in 1171, the beautiful eldest child of Duke Hugh III of Burgundy. As well as her husband's land in the Levant, she is heir in her own right to her father's prestigious title and expansive lands. Her father was well known for leading crusading armies alongside his erstwhile enemy, the King of France, but ill health has prevented him from travelling to the Holy Land lately. Fortunately, Aelith has proved quite as capable of leading the armies of Burgundy herself as she is of leading the fashions of the court, and of pious devotion.
