Zafir Mujahid ibn Malik al-Nazihah is the muscle of the al-Nazihah. His skill with the sword is considerable, and he accompanies the trade caravan to ensure the safety of his tribe against the myriad threats that face honest traders from the desert and the city alike. Zafir is fiercely loyal to his brothers and sisters, and would gladly fight for their honour. As with many things, however, his services both as a sword-for-hire and a desert guide can be bought… for a price to be negotiated.

Hit Me Harder, Heathen

The Bride

Translated, Decyphered and Reconstructed from the stone Journals of the Sphinx Asra Aisha Al-Nazihah, written between 1193 and 1657:

”…AND DID HE OF BLADE AND STAFF PROUD COME FIND ME ONCE MORE AMONG THE SNOWS AND PALACES, AND WON MY TRUEST FREEDOM BUT WITH SWEET WORDS AND GOLD COIN. AND DID WE LIE TOGETHER AMONGST THE SANDS OF MY BIRTH, THE MOST ANCIENT OF PLACES, AND WE SPOKE AND TALKED AND LEARNED AND LOVED OF EACH OTHER. AND THOUGH HE HAD BEEN WOUNDED BY THE BURNING DAWN STAR, HIS HANDS TAKEN FROM HIM, DID I CARE NOT BUT ONLY LOOKED UPON THE FLAME WITHIN HIS SOUL. AND SOON DID I TEACH UNTO HIM WITH CLOSE WHISPERING UPON HIS EAR THE ARTS WITH WHICH TO PROTECT HIS FAMILY, WITH WHICH TO PROVE HIS WORTH TO THE GOLDEN-SKINNED SULTAN ONCE MORE…”

”…AND DID THE DAY OF MARRIAGE APPROACH, BUT DID NO PRIEST OF ANY FOUR COVENANT BE WILLING TO PRAISE OUR CELEBRATION, TOO ENRAGED BY THE WOUN DED AND THE BEAST WISHING UNION. NONE COULD BE SWAYED BY ZAFIR'S RAGE, THE SULTAN OF BAGHDAD'S GOLD, SIDDIG'S FIERY TONGUE, OR EVEN THE ANGRY MONGOOSE OF HIS SISTER. ONLY THE MANTICORE AGREED, AND NONE WOULD TRUST A UNION FROM HIS MOUTH, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES IT ROLLED ITS EYES. BUT FINALLY DID ONE PRIEST, WHO CLAIMED TO STEP ACROSS ALL COVENANTS AND KNOW TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF UNITY, OFFER HIS SERVICES. AND WHEN HIS NAME WAS ASKED, DID ZAFIR'S EYES FILL WITH WATERS OF JOY AS HE EMBRACED THE PRIEST WHO WOULD UNITE US BOTH. FOR THE PRIEST WAS BROTHER HISHAM AL-NAZIHAH OF THE FOURTH COVENANT…”

”…AND OUR FIRST NIGHT AS BETROTHED, DID HIS SISTER WITH WIDE SMILE DID GIVE TO HIM TWO VIALS FROM WITHIN THE FAMILY'S DUSTED COLLECTIONS: A WATER OF THE CRAFT WHICH DID CHANGE THE SKIN AND SHAPE, AND A VIAL OF THE BLOOD OF MY OWN MOTHER, PRESERVED FIFTEEN SCORE YEARS BY. AND DID HE LOOK CONFUSED AND PUZZLED AS EVEN I DID BLUSH AT THE IMPLICATION, AND FINALLY DID HE REALIZE WHAT THE POTIONS WOULD LET HIM CREATE WITHIN ME, AND DID HE UTTER 'Oh.'…”

”…AND PLACED WITHIN THE PAWS OF OUR FIVE-TIMES GRAND-DAUGHTER, CURSED OF SHAVED-APE FORM, THE BLACKENED MIRROR, AND DID HE COMMAND HER TO KEEP IT SAFE AND SECRET, TO CALL UPON THE SULTAN ONLY TO TAKE IT FROM HER HANDS WHEN SHE WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO HOLD IT HERSELF. AND WITH A KISS FROM US BOTH WILL WE BOTH LEAVE, PAW IN PAW, OUR CHILDREN AHEAD OF US, INTO THE SHIMMERING GATE, TO THE REALM OF DUST TO REBUILD THE FORGOTTEN WORLD AND RETREAT FROM THE EYES OF SCIENCE AND DISBELIEF, TO FULFILL THE DEAL WE HAD MADE SO LONG BEFORE…”

The War

“Blood on the Sand: The Battle for Gammorrah”, Al-Bajari, New Babylon Press, 1847:

”…numbers in the hundred thousands, rallied from every corner. And though the dark city still stood tall, awaiting the armies of the Faithful, did the Al-Nazihah bring great secrets of weapons amongst their number…

…Zafir, the famed fighter, had been dismissed by many of the Bedouin as a lost cause. The blade for which he was famous, a Great Ebon Scimitar, had been lost against the Tiamat thing, and since then he had even lost his arms fighting the great vision many believed to be Satan himself. But when he appeared before the gathered armies, appearing in a sudden blast of sand and light, did the amassed armies suddenly show both fear and respect.”

“For he had brought with him three companions. The first was his wife, the Sphinx Asra, a powerful invoker of the Sands and apparent secret Ally of the Al-Nazihah, who cradled his elder form, great sandy-furred paws wrapped around his long robes.”

“The second was a Djinn, the first seen for decades. He had Golden skin and upon his head a sparkling fez, upon his face a dour expression, as if he simply wished things to end swiftly.”

“The third, the other three mounted upon his back, was a great green Wyrm. A Dragon of Majestic proportions, it's great wings beating thunder, it's mouth breathing lightning. But it did lollop and laugh like a dog, trained to obey and enjoy. But thsi did not stop sending the Al-Nazihah's enemies into panic. No-one asked how he had gained these allies, but meaningful glances between the Warrior, The Sphinx and the Djinn implied deals to be made and kept..”

”…And with a great signal did the Bedhouin and their allies descend screaming upon the enemies of the lord, sealed away from the light for aeons for their sins, the Al-Nazihah leading the charge for the reclaiming of the City in the name of The Covenant.”

The Statue

A Statue stands in New Babylon, Marble, of an Arab Warrior guarded by a Sphinx. Black Marble is used for his blade.

The Inscription reads:

ZAFIR AL-NAZIHAH \\ TAMER OF THE MANTICORE
LOVER OF SPHINXES
SLAYER OF TIAMAT
SAVIOUR OF THE HAJJ
FIGHTER OF SATAN THREEFOLD
GUARDIAN OF FAITH

However, the inscription is hard to read under modern day graffiti. In bright pink letters, a simple message:

“HA-HA! LEGACY!”
